Marshall Aerospace delivers essential Medevac Conversion kits to Norwegian Armed Forces

Marshall Aerospace has delivered and installed its first set of vital Medevac Role Change modification equipment to the Norwegian Armed Forces. It is the first time, in Sweden, that certification has been issued for a role change modification of this kind to be operated by a commercial airline.

The equipment was designed to change a civil aircraft into a new class of ‘air ambulance/mobile intensive care unit’. It was installed and demonstrated for the first time in the presence of the Norwegian Defence Minister and European Aviation Safety Authorities at Gardermoen Airport, Oslo on the 21st September.

Norwegian Defence Minister, Grete Faremo, said: “We are now able to transform a civilian aircraft into a large air ambulance in less than 24 hours. This has significantly strengthened the Armed Forces medical evacuation capacity. This is important for our troops in Afghanistan and it is a good example of how the military can contribute to civilian society. This valuable resource may also be used in the event of major accidents and natural disasters all over the world.”

As the project lead, Marshall Aerospace worked very closely to specify, design, develop, produce, deliver, install and certificate the Medevac Role Change system with Nodin Aviation, the Norwegian MOD Procurement Organisation (NDLO), Scandinavian Airlines (SAS), the Norwegian Armed Forces Medical Service, a range of specialist medical equipment suppliers and the European Civil Aviation Authority EASA.
